Safe Haven started as a prototype project or maybe it should be thought of as three different prototypes rolled into one. Firstly, it was a prototype for someone who wanted to provide additional support for those with special needs. Secondly, it was a prototype for someone who wanted to do more to support projects that were just getting started. Thirdly, it was a prototype for a church that wanted to do more in the community.
What actually happens though is that on Tuesday afternoons we open the doors at Bethania and welcome people with special needs. Most of them use a wheelchair, not of all them can talk or use their hands very well. Like I said they are a group of very special people who come along with other special people who work with them.
I enjoy making things and doing things that they can join in is a challenge but I love challenges. I am not sure if I would be up to the challenge of being around all hours of the day and night to make sure these people are fed and watered, washed and toileted etc. That is why we see the carers who come with them as very special people as well.
